Day Seven – Epic Odyssey
Today we are off to Italy, a quick two-hour hop from Hampshire. We arrived at Genoa Airport (LIMJ) around 1 p.m., unloaded and fueled the planes, passed through immigration and proceeded to the coach for lunch at Strainers Restaurant in the harbor overlooking the exquisite village of Portofino. We then proceeded to our hotel in Santa Margarita, just a short drive away.
Originally built as a private villa in 1889 by an aristocratic family from Corsica, the Imperiale Palace Hotel sits high overlooking the harbor, with spectacular views and within easy walking distance of everything. After check-in, everyone dispersed to explore the many wonders of the hotel, the beach, and village. We then gathered on the Terrazzo overlooking the Mediterranean for cocktails and a magnificent four-course dinner, elegantly served by the exceptional staff. Each course was better than the one before. After the late lunch, we were all feeling a bit “over fed” to say the least. It was a perfect conclusion to our first day in Italy!
